The challenge
Ghana is currently grappling with a severe shortage of blood in its national blood bank. This crisis has far-reaching consequences, including an increased risk of maternal mortality during labor, financial barriers for patients in need of blood for surgeries, scarcity of various blood types, and reluctance among the public to donate due to stigma and superstition.
Solution: In response to this urgent need, the Bernard Tekpetey Foundation has developed a comprehensive plan to organize a blood donation event with the aim of collecting 500 pints of blood. This event, scheduled to take place on 15 June 2024, at the athletic oval University of Ghana, will not only replenish the depleted blood bank reserves but also address the underlying issues contributing to this crisis. On this, we have collaborated with the National Blood Service of Ghana, Nana Tea a social media influencer and the Evelyn Authur Health foundation to do this.
